Anthropic Slashes Claude Pro Limits, Pushes Max and Team Users Toward API Pricing

Max plan ($100/month): The cap dropped from 300 messages per 8 hours to just 100. Overnight usage (previously unlimited) now counts toward this limit. The “occasional” 5x boost was also eliminated.
Team plan ($30/user/month): Each user now receives 100 messages per 8 hours, halved from the prior 200-message limit. The 5x boost is gone.
Key Warning: Heavy users who previously relied on unlimited overnight access will face the most disruption. All usage now counts toward a single, lower cap.
The API Push
Anthropic is explicitly directing power users toward its API pricing, where they pay per token rather than a flat monthly fee. The company states that users who regularly hit the new limits “may benefit from switching to the API for more flexible, usage-based pricing.”
This strategy mirrors moves by OpenAI, which similarly reduced ChatGPT Plus limits in 2024 before introducing higher-priced Pro tiers. Anthropic’s message is clear: flat-rate plans are for casual use; heavy use must go through the API.

Anthropic introduced the Max plan in early 2025 as a “high-usage” alternative to the Pro tier. At launch, it promised “at least 5x the usage limits of Pro” and unlimited overnight access. The new limits erase that advantage, making Max roughly equivalent to the old Pro cap.
