Claude CoWork Learns New Skills by Watching Your Screen and Listening to You
Anthropic’s Claude AI can now master software workflows simply by observing a screen recording and hearing a voice-over explanation — no explicit programming or step-by-step instructions required.
The feature, called CoWork, lets users demonstrate a task once while Claude records the screen and narration. The AI then builds a reusable skill from that single demonstration.
How CoWork Works
Users start a CoWork session by choosing a recording option inside Claude’s interface. They then perform the target task — for example, filling out a spreadsheet or navigating a CRM tool — while narrating their actions aloud.
Claude captures the full screen activity and the accompanying voice track. The system does not require users to write code, create macros, or provide written instructions.
After the demonstration, Claude processes the recording to generate a structured skill. The user can test and refine that skill before deploying it for automated execution.
What Skills Can Claude Learn?
Early demonstrations show Claude handling a range of practical office tasks:
- Data entry automation — extracting information from one system and populating another
- Multi-step form filling — completing repetitive fields across different web apps
- Process walkthroughs — teaching Claude how to respond to customer tickets or update records
- Reporting workflows — generating summaries from raw data sources
Anthropic states that the more consistent the demonstration, the better Claude’s performance. Variable or ambiguous actions may require additional examples.

Privacy and Data Handling
Screen recording raises obvious privacy concerns. Anthropic says recordings are processed only for the duration of the learning session and are not stored beyond skill creation. Users control when recordings start and stop.
The generated skill runs locally within the user’s Claude environment. No screen data is used to train Anthropic’s broader models unless the user explicitly opts in for product improvement.
Organizations using CoWork for sensitive workflows are advised to review their data policies before demonstrating any proprietary or confidential information.
Availability and Platform Support
CoWork is rolling out gradually. Current access is limited to:
- Claude Pro subscribers — highest-tier paid plan
- Claude Team and Enterprise accounts — organizational licenses
- Selected API users — developers integrating CoWork into custom workflows
The feature works on desktop browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) and the Claude desktop app for macOS. Mobile support has not been announced.
Competitive Positioning
Anthropic is directly targeting the rise of “agentic AI” platforms. Competitors such as Google’s Project Mariner, Microsoft’s Copilot Actions, and various robotic process automation (RPA) tools also rely on demonstration-based learning.
However, CoWork differentiates itself by combining screen recording with voice understanding in a single step. Most rivals require separate textual instructions or manual macro configuration.
The approach lowers the barrier for non-technical users who want to automate repetitive digital work without learning scripting tools.
Potential Limitations
Early testers report that CoWork works best for linear, predictable workflows. Tasks with branching logic, dynamic web content, or heavy decision-making may need multiple demonstrations or manual corrections.
Accuracy also depends on screen resolution, recording frame rate, and audio clarity. Background noise or rapid mouse movements can confuse the model.
Anthropic acknowledges that CoWork is in an early stage and expects improvements as user feedback accumulates.
What This Means for Everyday Users
For knowledge workers, CoWork promises to eliminate the most tedious parts of daily computer use: copying data between systems, filling in repetitive forms, and walking through step-by-step processes.
Instead of learning a new tool or writing a script, users simply show Claude once what they want done — and Claude remembers how to do it.
