We are thrilled to announce the release of Gnoppix 25.9, a major milestone for our project.

Important Note for Existing Users

You do not need to perform a clean reinstallation. If you are an existing Gnoppix user with the repository server active, you can simply run a system upgrade to update to Gnoppix 25.9 and all its new features.

Key Improvements in Gnoppix 25.9

This release is a direct result of valuable user feedback from our community. We have focused on a single goal: improving usability. Gnoppix 25.9 is faster, more intuitive, and more stable, ensuring a smoother experience whether you are a new user or a long-time enthusiast.

Your feedback helped us fine-tune the interface and workflow to make Gnoppix more efficient for daily use.

Thanks to our private donator, we were able to migrate all the speed optimizations to Gnoppix. We have been told that Gnoppix is one of the fastest running and least resource-intensive Linux desktops, and our supporter even runs Gnoppix on a LiveCD.

We have also implemented the new Welcome Screen 2.0. Please note that some functions and links are not yet implemented in this new version, but updates will be delivered through the package management system.

An Important Update on AI Services

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all our AI users for stress-testing our API. During peak times, we reached 1738 concurrent users utilizing our API services, which is a significant number for our small project. This heavy usage has shown us where we need to focus our development on the user interface.

Unfortunately, due to the high costs associated with upstream API calls, we have had to make a difficult decision. While we have received free contingencies from Google and OpenAI in the past, we are not a social welfare project. The cost of these API calls has begun to affect other parts of our project, and we have had to stop providing free services for everyone.

Therefore, as of today, October 4th, access to our AI services is limited to members. We apologize for this change, but it is necessary for the sustainability of our project. If you are looking for free AI services, we understand this may not be the place for you.

Gnoppix KDE Desktop is Here!

We are excited to announce a new milestone: we have met the requirements for a new Gnoppix KDE Desktop. This is another great step for our community. The KDE environment will require a bit more resources compared to the XFCE version, and we advise using around 4GB of RAM for the best experience.

The official public release of Gnoppix KDE is planned for October 15th, 2025. However, Gnoppix members can download it right now!

Optimized LiveCD Performance

We have also optimized the performance of the LiveCD. We have internally voted against the copy2ram option, as it boosts the minimum system requirements on Gnoppix from a current 750MB RAM to a 6GB requirement. Whenever you’re free to provide a solution for copy2ram, you can submit a report at our GitHub page or in our Discord channels.

New Repositories & Downloads

For our dedicated community members, the new ISO is available now. We have also updated our repositories to ensure you have access to the latest packages.

We have also given our member download page a new look to make navigation more beautiful. We hope you enjoy it!
