Gnoppix KDE 25.10 - Stable Release Notes

We’re thrilled to announce the stable release of Gnoppix KDE 25.10, built atop Debian Trixie! This release focuses heavily on performance and privacy, while also introducing a major overhaul to the user experience and new community features.

:rocket: Gaming & Performance

We’ve tackled the issue of needing manual tweaks for optimal performance head-on.

  • Integrated Performance Patches: We’ve incorporated system and performance patches directly into the operating system. You no longer need to manually install or apply these critical fixes they are now included by default!
  • Enhanced Gaming Experience: This change significantly impacts gaming. With Steam and Lutris, many Windows games now run exceptionally well, with some titles even performing faster than they do on Windows.

:sparkles: Redesigned Welcome Screen & Control Center

The Welcome Screen has been completely redesigned with a modern look and feel, transforming it into a central Control and Command Center.

  • Modern Look: A fresh, updated interface.
  • System Status at a Glance: The new design allows you to instantly check:
    • Internet Connection Status
    • Secure Connection Status (Tor)

:robot: New: Gnoppix AI Agent & Community Support

We’ve deployed new tools to better support our community around the clock!

  • 24/7 AI Agent Integration: Our website now features our own AI Agent! This is an Open Source-based AI Web Bot designed to answer your Gnoppix questions 24/7. It’s a self-learning agent running on Open Source and closed models, querying information from our internal databases or Google Sheets. (Documentation on the AI’s workflow will be available on Gnoppix Github when time permits.)
  • Thai Language Forum Support: To better serve our global community, we’ve introduced news and updates in the Thai language on the Gnoppix forum! If you’d like your language supported, please let us know.

:shield: Privacy Focus: Introducing Librewolf (again)

Given the recent negative actions regarding Firefox’s privacy, we are once again making a switch to a more privacy-respecting browser.

  • Change: Librewolf is now optinal please give feedback which you prefer. We believe this choice better aligns with our commitment to user privacy and open standards.

:light_bulb: Resource Usage & Recommendations

Gnoppix is designed to support a wide array of hardware, which means many services and drivers are loaded by default.

  • Default RAM Usage: Due to comprehensive hardware support and included services, the default RAM usage is around 3.8GB.
  • Hardware Recommendation: We strongly recommend running Gnoppix KDE on a system with a minimum of 8GB of RAM for the best experience.
  • KDE Plasma Power: The full power of KDE Plasma opens up many possibilities, such as Kiosk Mode. While fully documenting these advanced features is a massive undertaking, we’re dedicated to making this power accessible. (P.S. If you’re looking to help out with documentation, we’re asking for volunteers—feel free to help out!)

:date: Developer/Rolling Release Status

  • Gnoppix-KDE-Rolling (Based on Debian Unstable/SID) is currently delayed and is now planned for release in early 2026. We have a lot on our plate right now and need to ensure the stable branch is fully solid before dedicating more resources to the bleeding-edge version.

:counterclockwise_arrows_button: Seamless Future Updates (OTA)

Getting future fixes and features is simple and painless.

  • Over-The-Air (OTA) Updates: You will receive updates “over the air.” Just run your regular system upgrade process to get the latest fixes and features instantly.

 A Note from Our Team & How to Help

We are a very small team of three dedicated people working on this project. Your support is crucial!

  • Support KDE: Please consider supporting the KDE Project. We want to ensure this incredible desktop environment remains open and does not go behind a paywall.
  • AI System Initiative: Technically, we can provide a fully installed, offline, and uncensored Open Source LLM AI System. However, hosting the necessary 9GB or 25GB images is a challenge. If your university or organization can help host these large images, please contact us!
  • Download: Patrons can download the images directly from Patreon. Everyone else can find the latest stable release on SourceForge.

We hope you enjoy this stable release of Gnoppix KDE 25.10! Your feedback is invaluable as we continue to improve.
