Dear Gnoppix Users,
I’m performing a major upgrade of our entire server infrastructure. This is a comprehensive migration where all Gnoppix servers and services, including critical services like email, will be moved. I’m anticipate some service interruptions during this process.
Date: Monday, September 8, 2025
Time Window: 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM (12 hours)
Maintenance Type: Major server and service migration.
Expected Impact: Interruption to services is expected.
-
Objectives
Migrate all servers and services to the new infrastructure.
Ensure all critical data is transferred accurately.
Validate the functionality of all services on the new platform.
Minimize the duration of service interruption for users.

Timeline (UTC+0)
12:00 AM - 01:00 AM: Pre-Migration Checks
Finalize all backups of current servers. Announce the start of maintenance to all stakeholders and users. Disable public access to all services.01:00 AM - 08:00 AM: Data and Server Migration
Begin data transfer from old servers to new ones. Configure new servers and services. This is the period with the highest risk of interruption.08:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Service Deployment and Initial Testing
Deploy all applications to the new infrastructure. Perform a series of smoke tests to ensure basic functionality.10:00 AM - 11:30 AM: In-depth Validation
Conduct comprehensive testing of all services. Verify data integrity and application functionality. Perform load tests to ensure the new infrastructure can handle traffic.11:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Go/No-Go Decision and Post-Migration Cleanup
Confirm all systems are operational. Roll back to the old environment if critical issues are found. Announce the completion of maintenance and re-enable public access. -
Communication Plan
Before Migration (Monday 12:00 AM): Send a final notification to all users and stakeholders.
During Migration: Provide regular updates (e.g., every 2 hours) on the progress via a designated communication channel.
After Migration (Monday 12:00 PM): Send a final notification confirming that services are fully operational.
-
Rollback Plan
If any critical issues are identified that cannot be resolved within the maintenance window, the team will execute the rollback plan.
The rollback involves switching all traffic back to the old servers and services.
The old infrastructure will remain on standby until the new one is fully validated.
Specific tasks may need to be adjusted based on the complexity of the services being migrated.
