We’ve taken bold steps to ensure your digital footprint remains yours alone, moving away from restrictive environments.

  • Infrastructure Migration: We have officially migrated our core operations to Japan, benefiting from privacy laws that are significantly more robust than those in the EU or US.
  • Tor Gateway Enhancements: * Fixed IPv6 issues within the Tor gateway.
    • New Tor Bridge: We’ve moved away from German-based servers (IONOS) due to EU speech restrictions, ensuring a more resilient connection.
    • Gnoppixctl v0.5.7: Added a dedicated “exit” option to Tor control for ultimate anonymity management.
  • Browser Evolution: We have removed Firefox as the default browser due to unacceptable telemetry data sent to Mozilla. In its place, we’ve added Betterbird, a modern, privacy-centric alternative to Thunderbird.

Gnoppix 26 cements our position as a leader in local and integrated AI automation.

  • Ollama 0.13.3: Now supports the latest local AI models. We are currently testing Qwen models as our new standard, following Meta Llama’s shift in source licensing.
  • AI Automation: Upgraded our agent and automation framework to v2.1.2.
  • New Models & Testing: A massive selection of paid and open-source models (including new NVIDIA and Amazon models) are now available for free testing at ai.gnoppix.org.
  • Local AI UI: All local AI web interfaces have been refreshed for a smoother user experience just with your browser.

We are expanding our ecosystem with full end-to-end encrypted services.

  • Gnoppix.me Email: Enjoy a full free end-to-end encrypted email service. To make this even easier, we’ve added a GPG UI Keygen tool to the desktop, allowing you to generate encryption keys instantly. View the Guide. (post quantum ciphers are on the way)
  • Gnoppix Cloud: Launching Gnoppix Nextcloud as a free benefit for members, including seamless sync modules integrated directly into your desktop. Access Nextcloud.
  • KDE Kiosk Mode (Beta): Pushed our new Admin UI for companies requiring controlled environments (e.g., locking a system to a single application).

  • Screenshot Overhaul: Thanks to Frank for the report! We fixed the keybinds, set Spectacle as default, and reworked “PrtSc”.
  • GPG Mail: Upgraded to version 1 for better stability.
  • New Visuals: A brand new background image for the Gnoppix 26 series.
  • Gnoppix on Stage: Our lead developer, Amu, recently conducted an interview with NCTI and a TechTalk at Feevale Techpark in Porto Alegre regarding OpenSource AI on Linux.
